THE DALLAS MOPAR CLUB IS ACTIVE IN CAR SHOWS, CLASSIC CAR CRUISES,DRAG RACING, MONTHLY CLUB AND BOARD MEETINGS, AND AN ANNUAL CLUB SPONSORED, CATERED CHRISTMAS PARTY, WITH A GIFT EXCHANGE, AND BOARD MEETING ELECTIONS.
MISSION
The Dallas Mopar Club is an organization of like-minded individuals united for the purpose of preserving the heritage of Chrysler Corporation vehicles and promoting interest through car shows, cruises, rallies, swap meets, and other organized events.
MONTHLY ACTIVITIES
On the second Sunday, January thru November we hold our club lunch meeting to discuss business and MOPAR related interests. In May the meetings are one week earlier. At our monthly club meeting we have a raffle, so members can make some gas money, a great incentive for attending meetings.
END OF THE YEAR
In lieu of official meetings in December, the club sponsors a casual, catered Christmas party with a gift exchange.
ORGANIZATION
The affairs of the Dallas Mopar Club are managed by a board of five members, President, Vice President, and three directors, elected from the membership at large: the club meeting held on the second Sunday afternoon of the months, January thru November. In May meetings are one week earlier because of Mother's Day.
Although members are encouraged to attend board meetings, only the five board members may vote on DMC issues. Officer elections, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, are conducted every December for one year terms, January thru December. Directors positions are for two year terms and are elected on a staggered basis. Officers and Directors may only serve two (2) consecutive terms.
HISTORY
Informally founded in 1982, the Dallas MOPAR Club was officially organized in January 1983 and published its first newsletter that February. The intend of the founding members (Jerry and Scott Calder, Chris and Mark Cigainero, David Hancock, Scott Graham, and followed soon thereafter by Mark Wilson and Shannon Lilly) was to create a community of MOPAR enthusiasts focused on high performance muscle cars.
The first DMC show was held in 1985 in the parking lot of a hotel in Irving, Texas. With only word-of-mouth advertising, the club hoped to attract around 50 cars, but when 90 cars showed up, a tradition was born. Not long after that, the club began having its annual MOPAR Mini-Nationals at the Preston Road Chrysler Plymouth dealership. To accommodate a larger attendance, the location has since changed several times. Membership remained small for several years, but around 1990 interest in racing started to take hold, and club membership increased significantly. Long-term members such as Ron Dillinger, Gaylen Williams and Bob and Norma Boedeker helped guide the new membership through the various events.
These days, the club's premier show, the Southwest MOPAR Nationals, held in October attracts visitors with vehicles from all over the United States. 2023 is the 39th annual show.
